Creating Intentional Memories

Yesterday, we were knee deep in the trenches. Today, it’s merely a reflective puddle, but a beautiful one, nonetheless.

Jonas, Caius, Liliana and Me / February 2021

We have had a proper white winter here by the Baltic Sea for some time now. Unfortunately, the powdery snow just has not been solid enough to do much with. But this week, we were in luck. My youngest two kids (Caius, age 9 & Jonas, age 11) were absolutely thrilled that we could finally roll, stack, and create a beautiful snow creature. We later named her Liliana and gave her a fairy tale life, involving fascinating stories right up until bedtime.

Liliana had two lovely stone eyes, which my kids believe must have been made of amber. Every time we looked at Liliana, her eyes seemed to be warm and glowing. Her smile was a larger stone that Jonas retrieved from the frozen edge of the sea. Our magnificent snow goddess had hair that was made of the finest green sea kelp. And since there were no sticks to be found for her arms, we gave her a bit of sculpting to give the impression of arms. Not to mention a bosom and butt cheeks, because hey — they are 9 and 11. Seriously though, it was a wonderful day. It was a day that I hope that my kids will remember for a long time to come.
